Life is a puzzle; we are the clues, and God is the answer.

The Wall Decor

“Jing, be careful that you don’t step on the décor,” mother warned, referring to the glass décor she laid on the floor about three meters from where I was playing jackstone. “It might break.”

“Ok mom,” I replied, wondering if it would indeed break.

I resumed with my playing. But soon, my curiosity as to whether the decor would indeed break if I stepped onto it got over me, that I decided to find out if it was true. Making sure mom was still busy cleaning the walls in the other room, I sneaked into the décor and stepped onto it, half expecting to hear a cracking sound.

Nothing.

Mom’s lying! I told myself. It didn’t break!

I went back to playing. But then another thought troubled me. Was mom really lying? But why? What if I just did not step on it hard enough?

I went back to the décor to try it one more time.

I stepped onto the forbidden object. One foot first. Nothing happened.

Two feet.

CRRRRRAAAAAAAACCKKKK!

“Oh you! I told you not to go near it.” Mom shrieked.

“Sorry mom.” I said.

She didn’t know it wasn’t for the broken décor but for something else that I was apologizing.

PS. Whenever I remember this incident, I can’t help but see its parallelism to what transpired at the Garden of Eden. Though I smile at the memory, remembering that I was a naughty kid, it sometimes scares me to think that, like Adam and Eve, I’ve failed the test. Argh!

Anyway, what I want to know is, if you have been in incidents similar to this, and if you remember amusing anecdotes from your childhood. Why don’t we all go down the memory lane, and share our funny, lesson-filled, or just naughty antics.

The floor is now yours…

    “Naughty antics…?”

Well, I once poured my juice back into the carton.

    Does that count?

Oh, and I made a spaghetti sandwich.

Me, I always stick my finger into someone’s nose to give a litmus test hehehe!

…you measured 7 but sometimes, you can be either lemon juice or a soapy water.

Antics down memory lane? Hmm… I dropped a small stone right at the mouth of our deep well pump in San Manuel when I was ten. Hahah.

Mom had to ask our neighbors to remove the lever and the socket of the deep well pump so the stone could be removed. Heheh. I was curious. hahah

@NOR Spaghetti sandwich? As in you put the spaghetti inside the sandwich? How was the taste?

@VF There you go again, talking in codes. 7 is neutral. Neutral = nice. Lemon juice = acidic. Soapy water = alkaline.

So what meaning do you ascribe to alkaline? To acid? Ah, tough!

@Mighty Ahahahaahahahah! Well, that’s very funny now. I wonder if your mom thought it was funny then. Hehehehe

Speaking of wells (this time, deep open type). I was vacationing in Cagayan (about 400 km north of Manila). I was about 6 or 7.

There was a deep well in the compound. I was told not to go very near it because I might fall. I asked what would happen if I fell. I was told I’d get drowned. They said the water was very deep, and cold.

Now, the curious me wanted to know if it was really deep and cold. If I’d really drown. One day, I went to the well. I gazed at the very still water, at my reflection beckoning me to jump. And you know what, I really wanted to.

But just then my older cousin arrived. Of course, I pretended I was just passing by the well.

You know what? Sometimes, I still wonder what I would have done had my cousin didn’t arrive.

    Naughty antics???

i was a PERFECTly behaved child, always polite, did as i was told and slightly shy…

it was only when i began chasing ‘eve’s and listening to what they told me i started getting into trouble! 😉

You know the saying about Curiosity Killed the Cat??

You got it BAD puss! 🙂

I’m kinda glad your cousin came when they did though… i HOPE you have learned NOT to listen to that little voice inside now.. well not so much at least? 😉

    @Friendster You were THAT normal? 😯 😉

Yeah I know that saying, but well, it doesn’t apply to me anymore. I got it REAL bad, when I was a kid. Me and my cousins swam in fish ponds 😉 I also remember insisting to my cousin to let me eat overriped fruits just to see if it would really make me sick, like he said it would.

Thinking about the things I did as a kid now make me think I was… hmmm… overly curious. (NOT crazy, I hope?)

The voice… hm, I got it tamed when I was a bit older. I didn’t hear it whispering to me to try things like alcohol, drugs, marijuana, and other traps teenagers usually fall into. I was well-behaved when I was a teenager. 😉 I was a “late bloomer.” Hehehehe

Listening to what they told you? So, it’s ALWAYS the eves’ fault, huh? 🙄 I’m pretending I didn’t ‘hear’ that. 😉

@VF 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 Multiply the rolling eyes by 100. That’s the number of eyes rolling at your uhmmm… comment! (In my mind). Hehehe. 😉

Wanted to put lots of rolling eyes but it didn’t work. I’m suspecting you’ve got wordpress on your side. Hmp! 😦
